We purchased this 3 bedroom / 1 bath property to re-purpose as a live-work space. It has been used most recently as a rental property with years of deferred maintenance, and the bungalow was in need of considerable repairs, design improvements and upgrades. Built in 1904, the property had several incarnations of mismatched remodels and additions, including a separate metal structure used as a mechanic’s garage. Our design approach was to create a “modern bungalow” to unify the home’s eclectic charm. New electrical, heating and plumbing were added, as well as a new kitchen, master bathroom and closet, roof, rain gutters, hardwood floors, and paint. The garage was converted into an 800 Sqft office / guesthouse space; the yard was re-landscaped and re-configured to add privacy and to provide a separate entrance to the office. This home was featured in the Los Angeles Times Magazine.
