Mid-century Pasadena home lists for the first time, seeks $1.7 million

A Japanese-inspired, post-and-beam-style home in Pasadena has come on the market for the first time since its completion in 1965.

Lovingly preserved, it aims to fetch $1.695 million.

The local build-design firm Norwood and DeLonge created the 1,669-square-foot family home of the late Hot Rod Magazine senior editor Gray Baskerville and his wife, Susan. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and many original features — think glass walls, wood-beamed ceilings and tongue-and-groove wood flooring embellish the living space.

In the kitchen, there’s a cozy breakfast nook.

Hanging fireplaces anchor the combination living and dining room and the master bedroom, accessed by a hallway lined with low bookcases.

A three-panel shoji screen splits the second bedroom into separate rooms with their respective doors.

The house floats above a two-car carport.

Mature sycamore trees provide dappled shade to the wooded grounds of this more than quarter-acre lot, which are cut by multiple paths that lead to patios and trails.
