Sunset Strip

With a raucous history that includes Prohibition Era casinos, mob-owned nightclubs, and bands such as The Doors, Led Zeppelin, New York Dolls, and Guns N’ Roses, the Sunset Strip is recognizable around the world. The mile-and-a-half stretch of Sunset Boulevard that passes through West Hollywood is known for its trademark billboards, luxury hotels, comedy clubs, boutique shopping at Sunset Plaza, and see-and-be-seen patio dining (Eveleigh’s brunch is not to be missed). There’s also significant architecture: the Stahl House is one of the city’s most important examples and the Art Deco Sunset Tower is a local favorite. The hills above the Sunset Strip, home to the coveted Bird Streets (also known as Doheny Estates) and populated by actors and athletes, offer multimillion-dollar modern compounds with expansive ocean and city views. And it was recently announced that Frank Gehry is designing a shiny, undulating mixed-use development at Sunset and Crescent Heights.
